I have been a patient of Melanie Severo for more than two years. Three years ago, I became very concerned that I had had four bouts of bronchitis over a relatively brief period. Since I was already engaged in care provided through traditional Western medicine and was diligently following my pulmonologist’s recommendations, acupuncture seemed to be a sensible complement. Thus far, the results have surpassed my expectations. I am happy to say that I have not had bronchitis since beginning... Read more »

“Melanie has enhanced our health and well being in ways we never imagined. After receiving her expert care, I now sleep better, longer and wake up more rested. I have less anxiety and my overall mental outlook has improved. More importantly, Melanie has greatly enhanced my wife’s health. My wife had suffered with a combination of acid reflux and asthma for years — with little to no relief from traditional, western medicine. After a few short sessions with Melanie, my... Read more »

Melanie is thoughtful, effective and caring. She says that she’s passionate about your health and well-being and she really does mean it. I quite liked that Melanie has a Western background (she’s as a registered nurse) while also being able to explain all of the non-Western components of acupuncture. Her new office is well located and very pleasant. Highly recommended. JT

Military Veterans Find Relief with Acupuncture
Military veterans often return from service with a host of physical, mental, and emotional challenges related to their tours of duty. Rarely does a service member present with just one health issue. A 2014 study summarized the challenges associated with treating veterans and their often complex medical issues. The study said, “Veterans of all war eras have a high rate of chronic disease, mental health disorders, and chronic multi-symptom illnesses (CMI).(1-3) Many veterans report symptoms that affect multiple biological systems as opposed to isolated disease states. Standard medical treatments often target isolated disease states such as headaches, insomnia, or back pain and at times may miss the more complex, multisystem dysfunction that has been documented in the veteran population. Research has shown that veterans have complex symptomatology involving physical, cognitive, psychological, and behavioral disturbances, such as difficult to diagnose pain patterns, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, or neurocognitive dysfunction. (2-4) Meditation and acupuncture are each broad-spectrum treatments designed to target multiple biological systems simultaneously, and thus, may be well suited for these complex chronic illnesses. The emerging literature indicates that complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) approaches augment standard medical treatments to enhance positive outcomes for those with chronic disease, mental health disorders, and CMI. (5-12.)”
